CSR Documentary #4

Picture me
Week 13

Documentary Information

The documentary that I watched was called Picture me and it was 82 minutes long. Visit Films and Digital bazooka produced this documentary. It was directed and started by Sarah Siff a former model. She now has an alliance that she has created because of her modeling experiences. Her alliances is about starting a union and knowing your rights as a basic employee. She has also created a set of guidelines for models and photographers to follow to ensure proper responsibility will be taken.

Video Summary

Go behind the scenes and chronicle the glitzy world of high fashion modeling, from photo shoots with celebrated photographers to runway shows in New York, Milan, and Paris.
This documentary is about a Model named Sarah and her modeling career. Her live was document for about 6 years, from the age of 18 to about 23. One day she was in New York and an agent approached her and casted for an agency from there her modeling career began. At first she thought she was being invited to this “exclusive fantasy world” but soon realized that is wasn’t all glamour. She talked about how you had to be overly nice at the casting and how draining is it. It shows her reaction to the Billboard ad that she appeared in and the pay that she received. When the sensation wares off and she starts to see the industry for what it is does she start to think, Ill just do it while it lasts. During that period though she finds it hard to even continue. It shows her very upset asking herself, “what do I do that is anything different then what a stripper does?” and “why am I not doing something meaningful in my life”.

Personal Opinions and thoughts

This was another documentary that I felt really related to my life and how I feel about the industry. They also developed a plan to change the industry by implementing regulation and creating awareness. I felt that they glamourized the industry a bit in this documentary and that they avoided the touchy subjects or the full truth. One thing that people always forget when they think about modelling is the level of stress the girls put their model and minds through. I’ve had people tell ask why I don’t still model because it’s the easiest job every but just like Sarah there would be days I would be so sick and they would tell me its only a casting you can go an hour as if I had no choice. During the video Sarah explains the hardships of modeling and she says at that time “Nothing come without a catch” and for modeling that catch or price is so high. The industry is so unpredictable that you never know what’s going to happen and the risk that you take isn’t as obvious as it should be.
