Journal #3

Summary
and thoughts:
In week 7 we had are midterm test. I thought that it was
pretty easy for the most part but I also prepared my answers before hand. I
watched the documentary Fashion Victims
that was about factories in Bangladesh. I watched another document called Culture In Decline, which was about how
people are obsessed about status, and are materialistic. They are also egotistic
and vanity because of social media and Internet. I didn’t find that these
documentaries taught me anything new because I already watched other
documentaries about the effects of social media and corporations.
In week 8 we had our reading break but during that week I
looked up child beauty pageants and watched a show called Baby Beauty Queens. I
found that it was so hard to watch because I couldn’t believe that parents do
this to there children. It also made be feel bad for the children because their
parents are living through their children and forcing them to do the shows. It
showed the girls freaking out and saying they do it because “Mommy wants me
too” and it just made me feel disgusted with the mothers. I also think that
when the girls grow up they will have image problems and have bad attitudes.
In week 9 we learned more about globalization and had
someone from Ireland to talk about the colleges there. I really want to go to
Ireland or Scotland so I can get my Masters degree in Business in a shorter
amount of time. The thought of the day was about child labour and he showed us
a video about it. I think that the data was a little bit exaggerated and
incorrect because Wal-Mart and other corporations that contribute to child
labour have factories that aren’t exposed yet. Something that was said during
the lecture and many times before is “treat the earth like a bunch of different
systems”. I think is something the government should really take in to
consideration because if they did, it would help them view the different aspects
(systems) more easily and determine which ones will be effect by the decision.
We also talked about how different places have different laws and how we should
either adapt to them or make a standard for them. But then the point was
brought up that should be allowed to tell other countries to change their laws?
I think that there should be a standard law for international business and not
change there laws just add more. I feel bad that we are so toxic to the earth
and the impacts were having. I find it most frustrating because we can do very
little about it and make only a small change. We learned about solar panel
farms and I think that’s so awesome that I want to do it my self.
Questions and Opinions:
Where does the shareholder
model end for you? Is there anything we shouldn’t consider when making business
decisions?
It doesn’t really end for me. I think we should consider
every aspect because we should know better then to do harmful actions and not
expect a repercussion. With every action there is a reaction.
Definitions:
Globalization: “is a process of interaction and integration among the people, companies,
and governments of different nations, a process driven by international trade
and investment and aided by information technology.”[1]
